Last year Prime continued its amazing run by taking home a well-earned HuntStand award; more excitement looms for 2017.
From the current wind and weather conditions to insights into the best hunting tactics and gear, all of us here at HuntStand Hunting believe that more knowledge leads to more hunting success. And that’s part of the genesis of this feature, geared to introduce the HuntStand community to a whole host of hunting-focused companies and gear.
By most anyone’s yardstick, Prime Archery is on a roll. Virtually ever since the company’s inception back in 2010 its bows have been turning heads and winning awards, and in 2016, the sweet-shooting Prime Rize was awarded the prestigious “Editor’s Choice” award in the 2016 HuntStand Ultimate Compound Bow Field Test, besting a field of 10 premium bows representing much of the most-advanced industry technology.
But that was then, and this is now. Can Prime continue its amazing run in 2017 with some new bows that include the Centergy shown above? For insight into the company’s exciting 2017 lineup and more, we talked recently with Prime’s Tim Checkeroski.
HuntStand: What sets Prime Archery apart from the competition—what makes your company unique?
A: Prime Archery is set apart from other bows on the market by the use of its patented parallel cam technology, which works to eliminate cam lean in every part of the shot sequence. There are many benefits to having little to no movement in the cam limbs, riser, and string, but they all lead to a bow that is very easy to tune and more fun to shoot.
HuntStand: What are some new developments at Prime Archery for 2017?
A: One of the new developments at Prime Archery is the introduction of the SWERVE design in the lower portion of the riser. This is designed to mimic the top portion of the bow riser, which naturally has less movement because of the sight window. Another development is the Centergy grip riser. The grip is now at the center of the bow to provide the best-possible balance without the absolute need for stabilizers.
HuntStand: How and when did Prime Archery get its start, and where are you currently based?
A: Prime Archery started in 2010 and it was created under the belief that there was a way to make a better bow than any other on the market by focusing on correcting and improving upon other problems other companies did not seem to acknowledge. Prime Archery understands it is not one feature that makes a bow great, but rather an entire system working together. The company is based out of Memphis, Michigan, a city about 50 miles north of Detroit.
HuntStand: What accomplishment is Prime Archery most proud of over the last year?A: Prime Archery is most proud of its new Centergy series of bows introduced for 2017. The goal was to create a series of bows with the best level of balance possible, and the engineering team succeeded in this and more. The bows not only improve the archers’ experience by reducing their pin movement at full draw, but the nock travel has become incredibly level both vertically and horizontally, to greatly increase the bows’ performance.
HuntStand: How does Prime Archery engage its customers for feedback, ideas, or suggestions for improvement?
A: From attendance at trade and consumer shows, to a growing social media presence, to our open customer service department, Prime has a wide variety of ways for customers, both current and potential, to contact us and talk with us about our products, and for us to help out in the best ways possible.
HuntStand: What are two things most people don’t know about Prime Archery?
A: One thing most people do not know about Prime Archery is it is a part of a third generation family owned company. Prime Archery is also an ISO certified company.
HuntStand: What is your company mission statement?
A: The company’s mission is to be the technological leader of the industry and to never sacrifice quality to improve sale numbers.
HuntStand: How many people do you employ, and are you currently hiring?
A: Prime Archery is also partnered with G5 Outdoors, Quest Bows, and Grace Engineering. All companies operate in the same building and employ approximately 130 people. We are currently hiring in many areas.
HuntStand: If you could change one thing about Prime Archery right now, what would it be?
A: If I could change one thing about Prime Archery right now, it would be the initial impression many people have when they see the parallel cam technology. Many have given the bows a questionable look because they think the bows are difficult to work with, when the opposite it true. The bows are actually very easy to work with and even easier to tune.
HuntStand: What are some short-range (less than two years) company goals?
A: The company goals for 2017 and the next year are to better connect with the archery community. We will be releasing more videos and blogs to better explain the technology found in Prime bows and even the reasoning behind their design. The goal behind this plan is to improve the initial impression of Prime bows as well as the experience after they have purchased a Prime. If successful, this campaign will help archers become more informed about the products they use and give them a better answer when someone asks, “Why?”
