We’re a long way from Halloween, but our Week 3 Winner would certainly not mind a late-October encounter with this well-known (and scary-elusive) Delaware giant.

Do you believe in ghosts? Delaware’s Jason Clay does, and for good reason. The 30-year-old and his father have been watching and hunting a large and very elusive nontypical Delaware buck for the past three years, but after Clay’s game cam captured a photo of the buck last October, the deer had vanished and was presumed dead…that is, until late June 2020. For sending in photos of the mature “ghost” buck taken June 25, 2020, Clay is the Week 3 winner of our 2020 Big Buck HIT LIST contest. The weekly win scores Clay a Wildlife Research Center scent and scent-elimination prize package valued at $48, and also makes him eligible for our September drawing to win a Wildlife Research Center prize package valued at more than $180. “My father and I have named this buck ‘Kicker;’ we have been watching him for three years now and he has been an absolute Ghost!,” Clay wrote. “The last trail cam photo I got of him was last October, so I was fairly certain he was harvested last fall by a neighboring hunter. But to my surprise a few weeks back Kicker suddenly reappeared—so the hunt is back on! Week3 Five 900“The area I hunt in Delaware is surrounded by flat land—corn fields, soybean fields and wheat fields. The field I hunt over is currently planted with alfalfa. I’m hoping this buck makes a mistake this fall, but if not, I hope I’ll get an opportunity next year! I’ve included a few photos I got of him this year on June 25th at 2:45 a.m. (he still has a lot of growing to do), and I’ve also included a photo of Kicker from July 2019 (above) the best image we captured of him last year.”
