When a favorite cedar swamp hunt area produces a monster buck two years after a logging operation, our Week 9 winner is crowned.
Have you ever had a favorite public-land hunting area suddenly and unexpectedly decimated by a logging operation? Dependably good stand sites along travel corridors you’d worked years to ferret out suddenly gone? Team HuntStand can certainly relate, and so can Wisconsin’s Matthew Wright. But Wright’s experience with a recent logging operation in his longtime hunt area shows there are silver linings to most any dark clouds. For sending in July 2020 photos of a massive Wisconsin swamp buck, a buck larger than Wright or his hunt group had ever before captured on game cam until the cedar swamp was logged two years ago, Wright is the Week 9 winner of our 2020 Big Buck HIT LIST contest. The weekly win scores Wright a Wildlife Research Center scent and scent-elimination prize package valued at more than $87, and also makes him eligible for our September drawing to win a Wildlife Research Center prize package valued at more than $180. Enter today! “These photos were taken on July 5 and July 20, 2020, in Oconto County, Wisconsin,” Wright wrote. “This site is in the middle of a large cedar swamp that was logged off two years ago. Since the swamp was logged this is the first year getting this buck on camera; before this area was logged we’d never captured any bucks of this size on camera before this one. We will be hunting this buck during the bow season that begins Sept. 12, and also the rifle season that begins November 21.”
To enter the 2020 Big Buck HIT LIST Contest, simply send us a few clear, high-res. digital trail cam photos (three to five) of a buck (or bucks) TAKEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2020 (Day or night images, photos accepted NOW THROUGH SEPT. 6).
Be sure to include the dates and state where the images were taken, and a few sentences detailing the type of terrain/area where the images were captured (i.e. funnel leading to soybean field, favorite stand site near wooded creekbed, etc.) and some info on the buck(s) pictured. Do you have any history with the buck? Is the buck a likely newcomer to your area? Is the deer somehow unique or unusual for the area? What weapons/seasons will you use to hunt the pictured buck(s)?
Along with your photos, include your full name and age, and also be sure to include your mailing address. Your e-mail subject line should read: Big Buck HIT LIST! Send photo(s) and requested info to: [email protected]
