South Dakota’s Jason Wilson is a man with a plan. Wilson, 49, is no youngster but he’s relatively new to bowhunting, and he can thank his game cameras for providing a little extra motivation this summer, to practice his shooting and otherwise get ready for the upcoming bow season. It looks to hold some serious promise.
For sending in photos of a beauty 10-point Mount Rushmore State buck, Wilson is our Week 3 Big Buck HIT LIST winner. “These photos were taken July 17 in Clark County, South Dakota,” Wilson wrote. “This site is very near my treestand in a shelterbelt, which is located next to a well-used deer trail that runs between large corn and soybean fields. The deer trail leads to a pond, which is fed by an underground spring. This is my third year bowhunting, and the first time I have seen this buck. It’s the biggest one I have seen yet. I hope he sticks around; I will be hunting him with my Diamond compound during the upcoming bow season.”
To enter the 2019 Big Buck HIT LIST Contest, simply send us a few clear, high-res. digital trail cam photos (two to five) of a buck (or bucks) TAKEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 (Day or night images, photos accepted NOW THROUGH SEPT. 6). Be sure to include the date and state where the images were taken, and a few sentences detailing the type of terrain/area where the image(s) were captured (i.e. funnel leading to soybean field, favorite stand site near wooded creekbed, etc.) and some info on the buck(s) pictured. Do you have any history with the buck? Is the buck a likely newcomer to your area? Is the deer somehow unusual or unique for the area? What weapons/seasons will you use to hunt the pictured buck(s)?
