Wide, tall and—did we say wide?—this jaw-dropping Maryland buck bagged with help from HuntStand is a great way to kick off our Big Buck ALERT contest.
If it wasn’t for the HuntStand app, this impressively wide and tall Maryland buck would very likely still be roaming the Maryland countryside, rather than nailing down the Week One honors in our Big Buck ALERT contest.
Maryland’s Eric Miller, 45, bagged this impressive 9-point with 23-inch outside spread on October 1, after his summer game cam surveillance turned up several photos of the buck, including an image that was captured just a day before the fateful hunt. Still, it was Miller’s careful attention to his HuntStand app that eventually led him to the deer, after a last-minute ScentCone check showed ideal conditions at a property and stand that Miller hadn’t planned to hunt.
“I was going to hunt a different property that evening, but after checking the wind and the ScentCone on HuntStand, I had to change plans and hunt this property because the wind was perfect for the stand location, and where the deer would be coming from,” Miller remembered. “I got in the stand around 4 p.m. with a light rain falling, and around 6 p.m. I was lucky enough to have him walk past my stand at 28 yards. He gave me a broadside shot, and about an hour later I had my hands on him. Lucky for me I checked the wind that afternoon and changed plans.”
