“Big Cedar Buck” | Hunting The Whitetail Rut In Georgia | THE HUNGER

by Josh Dahlke

Content Director MORE FROM Josh

Whitetails are whitetails. Or are they? While the white-tailed deer is a single species, biologists have identified multiple subgroups of whitetails throughout unique regions of North America. As a lifelong deer hunter, I’ve made it a goal to hunt whitetails in many different places, so that I may learn as much as possible about our world’s most numerous (and, arguably, most cherished) big-game species.

In this hunt, THE HUNGER brings us to Big Cedar Ranch in North Georgia. A healthy, well-managed deer population on this ranch means deer hunters have high odds of collecting venison … and running into a mature buck. But don’t be fooled: Rarely do whitetails come easy.
