Winter’s slow, reluctant retreat is always torture for hardcore turkey hunters. We’ll travel wherever it takes to get on the first gobblers of spring, even if that means plowing through snowstorms or scouting for remote pockets of flocked up birds. For this hunt, Team HuntStand ventured to a special ranch in western Nebraska during one of the earliest turkey seasons in the northern United States. Armed with crossbows, everyone was eager to kickstart their season and get up close and personal with unpressured gobblers. But nobody could’ve dreamed up the epic hunt that was in store, including a mega flock of Merriam’s turkeys that you have to see to believe.
