The .224 Valkyrie is a new, proprietary rifle cartridge from Federal, and this speedy little devil has been generating a lot of buzz. But how does it perform on big game? That’s what I was curious to see in a recent hunting camp, where my friend Joe Arterburn was testing the round on antelope. The high-velocity .224 Valkyrie was designed to offer best-in-class, flat-shooting performance for the AR/MSR rifle platform, but has since gained so much popularity that rifle manufacturers are starting to offer it in bolt actions. I’ve been addicted to the 6.5 Creedmoor, because it just plain works, but after Arterburn’s recap, I’m certainly intrigued to take the new Valkyrie for a ride.
