“I have been using the HuntStand app for years, I basically check it religiously before I hunt to ensure the wind is in my favor at my stand of choice,” Hartung wrote. “This buck has been on my farm for three years; he was number one on my Hit List this season.”
“The stand where I connected sits at the back of my property, overlooking a half-acre food plot of oats and clover,” Hartung continued. “A lot of bucks use this area on a daily basis. On this particular day, Sept. 28, HuntStand forecasted a 10-15 mph NW wind, which was exactly what I needed to access this stand without getting smelled by this mature buck. I knew he was bedding near this area by watching his movements with help from my Tactacam cell cameras.
“I got set up at 2:30 p.m., and this buck showed at 5:25 p.m., offering me a 45-yard shot. Using my Ravin crossbow I made a good shot, and the buck only made it about 60 yards. I was in awe when I recovered him; this is a buck of a lifetime. He gross-scored at 191 5/8 inches.”

How to Enter
To enter the HuntStand 2022 Big Buck ALERT contest, simply send us a few clear, high-res. digital photos (three to five) of your 2022 buck bagged after Aug. 1 (Entries accepted NOW THROUGH NOV. 23). Be sure to include the following:
A. A brief story of your hunt that explains how the HuntStand app played a part.
B. Be sure to tell us if your buck was known to you or a newcomer, then describe the area where your stand sits, or where the encounter took place.
C. Include the fateful day’s wind and weather conditions, and how the exciting action unfolded.
