Some recent improvements to a Texas ranch. An elusive 10-point buck. When HuntStand brings the two together in rifle season, our Week 8 winner is crowned.

Week8 OneBuild it, and they will come. That’s been the thinking recently for avid HuntStand user and Texas whitetail hunter Van Cashen, and his plan paid off handsomely this fall. For sending in photos and HuntStand success story of a beauty symmetrical TX 10-point, taken on land he’s recently improved, Cashen, 33, is the Week 8 winner in the 2021 HuntStand Big Buck ALERT contest. The win earns Cashen a sweet hunt pack from ALPS OutdoorZ: the versatile Covert pack (see below). The weekly win also makes Cashen eligible for our Grand Prize drawing in late November (more on that below).

We’re still looking for two more weekly winners so enter today!
(Details Below)

Week8 three“I hunted this deer several times during archery season, using HuntStand to make sure I had the right wind to hunt my tripod stand,” Cashen wrote. “I saw this buck on three out of the four bowhunts, but he never came in range for a good shot, and I eventually closed the deal during rifle season; I hunt a 112-acre ranch in central Texas.

“On Nov. 6 he came out at 5:50 p.m. at 200 yards, and eventually came in to about 100 yards, and I was able to get a shot on him shortly before 6 p.m. The wind was coming from the south at 5 to 7 mph, fairly ideal for this stand, and he walked almost straight to me, like I had dreamed about. I actually ended up shooting him with my Remington 700 AWR in 300 Win. Mag, just 30 yards from the tripod stand where I had sat during the four previous archery hunts.Week8 Two“As stated, during my rifle hunt I again used HuntStand to make sure the wind was right for the new stand. I also used HuntStand to plan and set up my hunting area before the season. I had a pond enlarged, and a few acres of trees cleared, using HuntStand to map out and plan all of that. HuntStand is my most-valuable hunting tool, along with my game cameras.Week8 four“I’d been tracking this buck for over a year (see fall 2020 and 2021 images above). As mentioned above, I did a lot of work in the offseason clearing several acres of mountain cedar, and leaving the oaks. And I enlarged a tiny pond to about a half acre. All of that work, with plenty of help from HuntStand, paid off nicely.”

It’s ideal for hunters who want to pack light but still carry essential gear. For cold-weather comfort, deploy the pack in front of your torso, and utilize the integrated hand warmer channel between the belt and main compartment. You’ll also find a clear smartphone pocket on the main compartment lid that offers safe storage of your mobile device.ALPSImpulsePack 900In addition, at the end of the 10 weeks, all weekly winners will be placed in a drawing for our Grand Prize: an ALPS OutdoorZ Impulse Pack (valued at $199.99; image above). This ultra-quiet design won’t betray your presence when your next trophy is closing in, thanks to ALPS’ new Deadquiet fabric; it features outer fleece with a polyester backing and incorporates a membrane between the two fabrics to help keep out moisture. The zipper-less main compartment allows you to access items quietly and easily; a series of magnets and an aluminum hook secures the top lid when needed. Ideal for ground blinds or treestands, the flat-bottom structure allows the pack to stand up independently. Included are an ambidextrous quiver holder, two deep side pockets, a drop-down pocket to carry your gun or bow, a two-piece adjustable waist belt with pockets, and a hydration pocket with two side ports.

Good luck out there this fall from all of us here at Team HuntStand, and let us know when (and how) you score with HuntStand!
