The Radius Mosquito Repeller ($50) is a better way to fight these bloodthirsty pests; at the push of a button, it creates a scent-free zone of mosquito protection. The Radius uses a rechargeable USB lithium ion battery to heat the liquid repellent (instead of butane cartridges used in the older models). This allows for the unit to emit an effective zone of protection for 8 hours at any elevation, and big news: It has been approved by the DOT for air transportation! The liquid refill cartridges allow for up to 40 hours of continuous protection per cartridge.

Wasp Havalon HV. This exciting three-blade fixed head is the 2019 Editor’s Choice winner of our Ultimate Broadhead Field Test; the design is a collaboration between Wasp Archery (also the overall Editor’s Choice Award Winner of the 2018 ScoutLook Ultimate Broadhead Field Test), and Havalon Knives, makers of scary-sharp replacement-blade hunting knives. Designers and engineers from both companies collaborated over the course of two years, sharing their knowledge of blade technology and materials for the ultimate in strength, surgical sharpness, and precision. Leading the way on the Wasp Havalon HV ($44.99/3) is the trademark Stainless Smart Tip (SST), a 100-percent stainless steel TROCAR tip designed for deep penetration. You’ll also find an aerospace-grade 7075 T6 aluminum ferrule, and .35-inch thick surgically sharp stainless steel blades that combine for a 1 3/16-inch cutting diameter. As with all Wasp fixed-blade heads, HV blades are easily replaced and each pack comes with three complete broadheads and six replacement blades.
Rage Hypodermic NC (No Collar). Rage knows that when the tiniest details count big, simpler is better. The new Hypodermic NC ($49.99/3) utilizes cutting-edge finger-like tabs on the blades’ Slip Cam pivot point to “anchor” them in place while in the closed position, completely eliminating the need for a Shock Collar, dental band or O-ring, while still providing reliable blade retention. Upon impact, the blades are designed to instantly deploy to a 2-inch cutting diameter, leading to gaping wounds that bowhunters have come to expect from the field-proven Rage Hypodermic series. The new Hypodermic hybrid tip offers an even narrower profile and needle-like ferrule, a streamlined package designed to deliver field-tip accuracy. The two .035-inch thick blades are designed to deploy on impact, sliding into a swept-back blade angle.
Rocky Mountain Switchblade. Looks alone can’t kill but this four-blade hybrid design and its rugged aircraft-grade aluminum ferrule is one wicked package. And even better, it earned our 2019 Best Value award following the 2019 Ultimate Broadhead Field Test. The 7/8-inch cut-on-contact leading-edge blades of the Switchblade ($24.99/3) are designed to deliver bone-crushing power for deep penetration. Those leading-edge blades are followed by two wide-cutting expandable wing blades held in place with a rock-solid O-ring blade-retention system. Upon impact, the beefy .035-inch thick wing blades are designed to spring instantly into action, deploying to a full 2-inch cutting diameter and creating a whopping 2 7/8-inch total cut.

Burris Oracle Rangefinding Bow Sight. Burris has long been a leader in laser riflescope technology and that knowledge and experience has flowed neatly into the Oracle laser-rangefinding bowsight ($829.99), which instantly provides compound bowhunters exact distance to target and an exact aiming point while at full draw. Team HuntStand was among the very first to field-test this incredible
sight; HuntStand Media Executive Editor Mark Melotik used one to anchor a trophy Alberta black bear (shown above). Our advice? All bowhunters need to consider this incredible design and experience its jaw-dropping capabilities. The Oracle eliminates aiming between pins by instantly calculating and displaying the EXACT aiming point for any distance and shot angle. A quick push of the button activates the built-in IR laser rangefinder; within seconds, the range to the target is shown along with an illuminated pin for the exact drop and angle-compensated aim point. The illuminated aiming pins are displayed on the vertical LED trajectory bar running through the entire midsection of the sight. The Oracle converts easily to right- or left-hand use.
Garmin Xero A1i Bowsight. Know the range, and shoot the exact pin with minimal movement using the Xero A1i bowsight ($999.99). It’s the first bow-mounted digital laser rangefinder and targeting display system that measures the angle-compensated distance to the target and provides an LED pin for the shot, even on those “in-between” yardages. Dual-color LED pins automatically adjust brightness to conditions and allow you to see your target, unobstructed by physical pins. A single trigger mounted to your bow grip lets you range at rest or full draw to game up to 100 yards away, or to reflective targets up to 300 yards. To help you track game or arrows, Laser Locate works with compatible Garmin devices (sold separately) to show you exactly where the target was located when the shot or range was taken. The Xero A1i bowsight saves settings for various bow setups, and it’s customizable for single- and multi-pin configurations, or for manual pin selection. The slightly less feature-rich Garmin Xero A1 Bowsight ($799.99) is also available. Some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of electronic bowsights for hunting; always know and obey all state hunting regulations before using this device.
IQ Bowsights DEFINE Pro. A new three-digit display and 30-percent reduction in weight versus the original DEFINE, highlight this new premium sight ($549.99, right hand only) that combines a laser rangefinder and pin sight into a single unit. The DEFINE Pro allows for precision ranging while at full draw, resulting in less movement during the critical moments leading up to the shot. You’ll also find +/- 1-yard accuracy out to 150 yards, instantly displayed on an illuminated blue OLED strategically placed within the user’s line of sight.
TruGlo Archer’s Choice RANGE•ROVER PRO. When it comes to critical gear, bowhunters love options. Thankfully, TruGlo is listening. Last year the company introduced a dual LED dot aperture option for its RANGE•ROVER PRO ($129.99), and for 2019, following popular demand, a new retrofit 2-Dot Aperture Kit option allows existing RANGE•ROVER PRO owners to also extend their sights’ downrange capabilities and accuracy. This aperture includes all the standard features found on the (TG6402GB) RANGE•ROVER PRO yet can be installed on the (TG6401GB) 1-dot RANGE•ROVER PRO.
Apex Gear ATTITUDE 7-Pin Bowsight. This year the proven ATTITUDE sight series grew with the inclusion of a 3- and 7-Pin model (shown above), which is ideal for shooters and hunters who are confident in stretching out their shooting on 3-D courses, or when hunting open country. Both new sights come with a new detachable bracket that allows for a longer sight radius for improved accuracy, and since it’s removable, is ideal for traveling or when storing your bow in a compact case.
HHA Optimizer Tetra Bow Sight. Latest in the HHA Sports line-up of Optimizer single-pin bow sights, the Optimizer Tetra ($269.99-$379.99) features an integrated SP-50 Infinite-Adjust bracket that offers a full 2.1-inches of vertical travel and allows for infinite adjustability to the scope housing, so shooters can dial their bow to extreme levels of accuracy while maximizing range of the preprinted yardage tapes. An all-new windage adjustment allows for both major adjustments as well as micro adjustments while second and third axis adjustments have also been integrated into the Tetra, all with tool-free adjustability.

– COMPOUND BOWS –
Prime Archery Black Series. Just in time for the holidays, the all-new Prime Black Series is a lineup of four new compound bows that offer revolutionary adjustment features. Prime’s revolutionary ROTO Cam technology is what separates these bows from the competition. The Black Series features a rotating module on the cam that will allow for easy and precise draw length adjustments. This capability greatly benefits both dealers and archers alike. Users will be able to adjust the bow to any draw length that the bow accommodates with nothing more than an allen wrench and minor adjustments to the rotating modules. Dealers won’t need to keep stock of additional cams or modules or spend any extra time in a bow press swapping cams or mods to fit their customers. The four new Black Series bows include: The Black 1 (31 inches axle to axle, 7-inch brace ht., 332 fps), Black 3 (33 inches axle to axle, 6.5-inch brace ht., 337 fps), Black 5 (35 inches axle to axle, 6-inch brace ht., 343 fps) and Black 9 (39 inches axle to axle, 7-inch brace ht., 325 fps).
Bowtech Realm SR6. The new-for-2019 Realm SR6 ($1,099) took home our well-deserved 2019 Editor’s Choice award, in part because of a welcome speed increase over its predecessor, the Realm; the two bows weigh the same at 4.3 pounds, but the Realm SR6 is slightly longer at 32 inches axle to axle (versus the Realm’s 30 ¾ inches) and the SR6 features a shorter brace height at 6 inches, versus the 7 1/8 inches for the Realm. The big difference is that the SR6 generates up to a reported 352 fps, versus the 340 fps of the Realm. If you’re looking for high performance, the SR6, one of four in the Realm series, might be your next bow.
Elite Ritual 30. Here’s another example of refining a great design. Last year the Ritual (a 33 ¼-inch bow that has now become the Ritual 33) turned a lot of serious bowhunter heads. The new-for-2019 Ritual 30 brings many of the same attributes but does it in a more-compact (30 ½-inch axle to axle) design, and as you might guess a bit lighter overall package at 4.1 pounds, versus the 4.3 pounds of the Ritual 33. A notable note: The Ritual 30 ($1,049) was, impressively, the most dead-in-hand (shock free) bow shot by our team at the 2019 ATA Show.
Mathews TRX 36, TRX 40. New for 2020, at 36 inches axle-to-axle, the TRX 36 is for shooters looking for a shorter, lighter, bow at their draw length while the TRX 40 offers ultimate stability and forgiveness on the range. Both models offer a new 70 percent V-mod which gives shooters a deeper valley while the standard 80 percent mods remain an option. The TRX 36 has an IBO rating up to 334 FPS and the TRX 40 up to 329 FPS. Both models also share these new features: AVS Bearings that deliver a more stable cam system for increased accuracy and consistency. The Bridged Riser adds rigidity through the sight and rest mounting locations, while added cut-outs minimize weight. Also, a new Stabilizer Bushing increases stiffness of a shooters’ stabilizer set up, enhancing accuracy.
Bear Kuma 30. Sometimes when you take a very solid bow design and make it lighter and more compact, bowhunting magic happens. The new Kuma 30 ($899.99) appears to be a prime example, with less weight and smaller axle-to-axle than the proven Bear Kuma, another member of the exclusive, dealer-only Bear Legend Series compounds. The Kuma 30 and its hybrid cams launches arrows at a reported 345 feet per second; it’s been designed to deliver a super-smooth draw cycle while keeping speed and accuracy. With an axle-to-axle length of just 30 inches, the bow features a rigid 1-inch-thick forged riser that has been strategically “hollowed out” to lighten the load–yet still prevents side to side flex, thereby increasing accuracy.
Pearson Atlas 32. Any way you slice it, compact bows hold some serious bowhunting advantages. With an axle-to-axle length of 32 ¼ inches and weighing just 4 pounds, the compact Atlas 32 and its 6.5-inch brace height is ideal for the treestand, ground blind, or your next backcountry adventure. Team ScoutLook had an opportunity to shoot this neat new design at the 2019 ATA Show and we were pleasantly surprised by its balance, speed and lack of hand shock. Plenty of options for this middling-speedy (330-plus fps) design include covering draw lengths from 27.5 to 31.5 inches, and letoff from 60 to 85 percent.
PSE Evoke 31. The new-for-2019 PSE Evoke 31 ($999.99 to $1,049.99) was one of the sweet surprises of the year, taking home the 2019 Silver award in the HuntStand Ultimate Compound Bow Field Test. This fine bow features the company’s proven Evolve Cam System (ECS), known for its stand-out comfort and shootability with 90-percent letoff. But now PSE has engineered the ECS onto a caged riser for upgraded stiffness, strength, and a welcome infusion of speed; the Evoke 31 was the fastest bow in our test. Overall weight is 4.2 pounds; the 31-inch axle-to-axle bow features a 6-inch brace height.

This update on 5.11’s best-selling boot is near-ideal for ground-pounding run-and-gun turkey hunters, and also looks to be a fine companion for upland bird hunters and for early season big game adventures, especially for western pronghorns. – HUNTING CROSSBOWS –
Excalibur Assassin 420 Takedown. Designed for the shooter who wants a high-performance crossbow with trouble- and maintenance-free technology, the Assassin 420 Takedown ($1,899.99) builds off the company’s wildly popular Assassin 360 and adds some serious speed (420 fps!) and new Quick Loc technology. Due to the simplicity of Excalibur’s recurve limb design, the Assassin 420 TD features the unique ability to quickly detach the front limb assembly from the mainframe, allowing for convenient storage and compact transportation. Using an innovative tool-less design, the limb assembly can be removed and reassembled in a matter of seconds without the slightest change in the point of impact. And like its Assassin 360 brother, the Assassin 420 TD also features a Charger built-in silent crank, a 3-pound match grade Proshot trigger, and Tru-Fit fully adjustable stock.
Mission SUB-1 XR. Last year Mission Crossbows made a huge splash with its ultra-accurate SUB-1 crossbow that remains in the line, and the company has followed up that success for 2019 with two new models including the top-of-the-line SUB-1 XR ($1,699.99) that’s designed for blistering speed and impressive accuracy. It’s designed to deliver speeds up to 410 fps with the capability of shooting 1-inch groups at 100 yards. You’ll also find exciting features like Benchmark Fire Control technology, which includes a 3-pound match-grade trigger, the Easy-Load bolt retention arm and the ability to safely de-cock with the push of a button. The compact frame is 9.1 inches axle-to-axle and just 30.5 inches long. It weighs 7.6 pounds and is available in Black or Realtree Edge camo (shown).
Bear X Crossbow Saga 405. Looking for top-of-the-line premium speed in a truly affordable package? You need to check out the new-for-2019 Saga 405 ($349.99) that is the fastest model in the Bear X lineup. Producing speeds of 405 fps with a draw weight of 210 pounds, the Saga 405 measures 14 inches wide cocked and 18 inches wide uncocked; you’ll also find an adjustable fore end grip, ambidextrous safety, and rear adjustable stock. More smart features include an anti-dry fire inhibitor, dual string suppressor system, and picatinny scope mount rail. Better yet? It comes complete with all the accessories needed including a 4×32 scope with multi cross-hair reticle and functioning eye piece, as well as a four-bolt quiver, cocking rope, three carbon bolts with field points, and rail lube/string wax.
Barnett HyperGhost 425. Speed. Power. The new-for-2019 HyperGhost 425 ($1,299.99) has plenty. Like its name suggests it delivers a blistering 425 fps and 152 foot-pounds of kinetic energy in a 7.7-pound, 36.25-inch-long package that measures 20 3/8 inches wide uncocked. The bow comes packaged with Barnett’s exclusive HyperFlite .204-inch small-diameter arrows designed to deliver ultra-deep penetration and one-shot kills. Also included is a premium 1.5-5×32 illuminated scope, CNC machined aluminum flight track, retractable counterbalance underarm support, Soft Lok floating bristle arrow retainer and anti-dry fire TriggerTech trigger.
TenPoint Nitro XRT. Get ready for the next step in crossbow evolution and performance. Tested to deliver speeds up to an industry-first 470 feet per second, and generating a jaw-dropping 190 foot-pounds of power, the Nitro XRT ($2,499.99) is touting 25-percent flatter arrow trajectory. And that means you can expect precision down-range accuracy and devastating knock-down power. The reverse-draw bow assembly features a center-mounted riser that’s designed to provide superior balance. By shifting the riser from the front of the crossbow to its center, the design eliminates the “nose-heavy” feel of traditional crossbows, making it easier to hold steady and keep the crosshairs locked on target. The bow and stock assemblies combine to create a perfectly balanced, sharp-shooting crossbow that weighs 7.4 pounds, and measures a mere 30.7 inches long.
Wicked Ridge RDX 400. Industry-leading technology starting at under $800? That’s what you can get with the reverse-draw RDX 400 ($759.99 w/Rope Sled; $859.99 w/ACUdraw) that measures just 9 inches wide and shoots up to a lightning-fast 400 feet per second. Its machined, lightweight aluminum riser is fitted with the company’s Over-the-Top limb pocket that both separates and isolates the limbs from direct contact with the riser to reduce sound and vibration. The bow and stock assemblies combine to create a balanced crossbow that weighs 7.1 pounds, and measures just 33.5 inches long (w/o stirrup). Equipped with either the ACUdraw or Rope Sled cocking device and TenPoint’s Multi-Line Scope, the RDX 400 is double-dip fluid imaged in Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo. The model sells only as a complete package that includes the cocking device, scope, three arrows, string stop system, and a quiver.
CAMX A4. They’ll never hear you coming. This innovative design features a unique suspension system that uses an inboard cam with special swing-arm design that completely protects cams, reduces felt shock to nearly zero and improves accuracy, all while sending arrows at 370 fps. The Pivoting Arrow Retention (P.A.R.) system provides consistent arrow pressure so it can’t come loose or fall out, allows for manual, one-hand let-down and works in concert with the CAMX Lo-Drag Fire Control Trigger as an ADF mechanism. Patented Thumbsaver technology protects the shooter’s forehand for the full travel path of the string and the cables. And like all CAMX bows, the A4 ($1,149.99/Base Package) comes pre-sighted at the factory from 10 to 100 yards. Includes four Accuspine arrows and field points, CAMX’s Wishbone patented quiver and a rope cocking aid, in Realtree Max-1, Mossy Oak Treestand or Ninja Black.
