The current steamy temperatures across much of the U.S. remind us the holiday season is still several months away, but it appears Ryan Mickley has located an early Christmas present. And hoo boy, it’s a doozy. For sending in photos of a monster non-typical buck that appears to be hanging with a younger buddy on his hunting property in his home state of Iowa, Mickley is the Week Five winner of our 2022 Big Buck HIT LIST contest.

The weekly win scores Mickley a Wildlife Research Center scent prize package valued at $44.99. It also makes him eligible for our drawing to win a Grand Prize Package valued at more than $630. The Grand Prize includes a wide variety of Wildlife Research Center products and two proven hunting optics from Burris.

Week 5 Buck with Buddy

“This monster was taken by my Tactacam Reveal on the morning of July 29th, in east-central Iowa, near a creek on the east portion of the property,” Mickley wrote. “That particular morning three mature shooter bucks came through that I had never seen before, along with a bunch of other younger bucks and does.
Week5 Buck On Way In
“I only included the pictures here of the biggest buck, but there were two others that were wall hangers as well,” Mickley continued. “It looks like the big guy in these photos is allowing the younger buck to tag along with him.
Week5 buck profile“I live in Illinois, but grew up in Iowa, and will be hunting late muzzleloader season on this property during the 2022-23 season. I go back each year to hunt one of the firearm seasons, simply because it is so difficult to draw non-resident bow tags. The owner’s son will have the first crack at this big boy with his compound.
Week5 Buck Standoff“The property owner’s son is 11 years old and will be bowhunting for the first time this year. I will be taking him, so we will wait for the best weather scenario to hunt this guy. This property has a history of producing a number of 150+ class bucks, but it has been a few years since anyone has harvested one.”
