Week9 one 900We all know curiosity killed the cat, but what about a trophy Arkansas buck? That’s the question rolling around the mind of Tennesee’s Brandon True, 34, of Bartlett. For sending in images of a trophy buck he’s been keeping tabs on for a couple years on his Arkansas waterfowl lease, after investigating some outsized deer tracks, True is the Week 9 winner of our 2021 Big Buck HIT LIST contest. The weekly win scores True a Wildlife Research Center scent and scent-elimination prize package valued at $88, and also makes him eligible for our drawing to win a Wildlife Research Center prize package valued at more than $180. Enter Today!Week9 4 900“Growing up an avid waterfowl hunter, I never really cared about deer hunting as I never got the opportunity to go,” True wrote. “But the older I got and the more connections I made, my opportunities to pursue whitetails grew. And the more I got into it, the more I loved it.

“I got the opportunity to join a lease in Lee county, Arkansas, with my uncle for the 2019-20 season,” True continued. “The land holds mostly all bean and rice fields, with a few small parcels of hardwood, and it was leased for waterfowl. But after seeing countless large deer tracks along the field edges and levees, I decided to hang one trail camera, and I set up a cheap feeder in October of 2020.Week9 2 900“Four days after hanging my camera I got the first photo of this deer in October 2020 (shown above). I told myself he needed at least another year, and did not pursue him during the 2020-21 season. Now running multiple cameras and a large hassle-free gravity feeder, I get pics of this deer and two other large bucks regularly.

“This feeder sits on a levee separating a 250-acre bean field and 50 acres of hardwoods. As the photos show, year-round access to high protein food, and another year of age, has done him well. He’s a main-frame 10 point with tall brows and a couple kickers. I’m gonna hunt him hard come bow season, and hopefully get it done.”Week9 three 900To enter the 2021 Big Buck HIT LIST Contest, simply send us a few CLEAR, HIGH-RES. digital trail cam photos (three to five) of a buck (or bucks) TAKEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2021 (Day or night images, photos accepted NOW THROUGH SEPT. 4).
