Two battle-happy bucks, one year later. Last fall their broken racks helped them get a pass, but this year they earned Doug Odell an impressive Week 7 win.
Wow. What a difference a year can make, especially when it comes to the racks of healthy, thriving whitetail bucks. For the latest evidence we give you the trail cam photos submitted by Michigan’s Doug Odell, 37. For sending in pics of two eye-popping Michigan bucks that he knows well, Odell is the Week 7 winner of our Big Buck HIT LIST contest. “Good morning from one of your followers in Michigan!,” Odell wrote. “We again have some great bucks that will be making our personal Hit List. We hunt in some hardwood forest areas that lead to some fields, and some thick swamp areas, and we enjoy keeping tabs on what potential is coming through our woods. Annually, we make a ‘Do & Don’t Shoot’ list so we can effectively manage our big bucks, and our upcoming ‘Hit Listers’ as well. 
“I do have history with these deer. The two big ones had busted racks last year, and I passed on shooting them; as you can see they made it through the hunting season. It is amazing how much difference one year can make in the growth of their antlers, by letting them walk.
“I hunt all three seasons here in Michigan, but I hope to harvest one, if not two of the bucks during bow season.”
To enter the 2019 Big Buck HIT LIST Contest, simply send us a few clear, high-res. digital trail cam photos (two to five) of a buck (or bucks) TAKEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 (Day or night images, photos accepted NOW THROUGH SEPT. 6). Be sure to include the date and state where the images were taken, and a few sentences detailing the type of terrain/area where the image(s) were captured (i.e. funnel leading to soybean field, favorite stand site near wooded creekbed, etc.) and some info on the buck(s) pictured. Do you have any history with the buck? Is the buck a likely newcomer to your area? Is the deer somehow unusual or unique for the area? What weapons/seasons will you use to hunt the pictured buck(s)?
