Mother Nature waits for no man. In this case, my field producer and I got to witness the volatility of rapidly rising waters during an unseasonable Iowa rainstorm. It was a shocking revelation of just how fast floods can get out of control. Truth is, in this particular scenario we weren’t in a seriously threatening situation. We had plenty of escape routes to get back to our camp, but it would’ve required walking through much of the property, inevitably resulting in spooked deer and ruined hunting opportunities. A human on foot is terribly alarming to deer, whereas they’re generally accustomed to—and not so threatened by—the rumble of a side-by-side or other vehicles. I’m glad we could rely on our Wolverine. Not to mention … it sure beat the alternative of having to pack out that big Hawkeye buck.
