Studying HuntStand’s Whitetail Rut Map, each county in the whitetail’s range exhibits five phases of the rut. These include the pre-rut, peak rut, waning rut, pre-second rut, and second rut. The dates of which these rut phases occur vary from one location to the next. That said, in each respective location, they occur at the same time each year. For example, in southeastern Ohio, the rut phase dates are October 24 to November 3 (pre-rut), November 3-17 (peak rut), November 17-27 (waning rut), November 27 to December 4 (pre-second rut), and December 4-14 (second rut).
