In the first episode of “Deer Dirt,” Bill Winke discussed how to find a dream deer hunting property. He covered the ins and outs of locating what could be a great tract of whitetail ground. Of course, certain boxes must be checked, and elements present, to qualify. That said, assessing the status and potential of a hunting property is equally important.
In this latest episode, Winke details how to assess the status and future potential of a hunting property. This includes an honest assessment of what the property offers now. It also incorporates what it can become in the future with various management actions. Things to consider include inherent herd and habitat conditions, local genetics, neighbors, CWD, equipment, budget, skills of other hunters, and more.
Of course, Winke also explains certain HuntStand features that help in that process, including the Whitetail Habitat Map, Property Info, various satellite layers, helpful topography layers, the rut map, etc. Each of these tools and layers offer benefits that existing and prospective landowners can incorporate into their process and benefit from.
