Join Kelly Cooper and her husband Will on her first-ever turkey hunt, where they experience a wild morning of turkey hunting action in Texas. Then, 8-year-old Hudson Lochte sets out to bag his first spring gobbler when a minor mistake costs him. However, Hudson redeems himself when two strutters come in hot to his decoys and his missed shot is quickly forgotten.
Of course, Texas is a great destination for turkey hunters. It has Eastern and Rio Grande turkeys. The state has about 500,000 birds, which is incredible, even for its size. Licenses and tags are somewhat costly, and private land access difficult to come by. But, if you overcome these challenges, and make the long trip, Texas can produce.
Plus, there have been decent to good hatches in recent years, and flocks are boasting strong numbers. Hunters are enjoying good times in the turkey woods. There are solid numbers of 2-, 3- and even 4-year-old gobblers. All things considered, Texas turkey hunting is pretty great.
