How will you use Live View on your properties? The possibilities are numerous.

With the press of a button, you can now turn your cell cameras into live feeds. Implementing the Live View technology allows Command Pro app users to stream high-resolution videos from cell cams right to their devices.

Stealth Cam’s Chris Dunkin recently joined the HuntStand Podcast to talk about Stealth Cam’s 2025 lineup of products. In 2014, Dunkin started with Muddy, and today, works with the Muddy and Stealth Cam brands. He lives in southern Iowa – the land of giant whitetails.

Incredibly, these new cams (and some models from last year) now offer the all-new Live View feature. This real-time technological advancement is a game-changer for hunters. Check out what Dunkin has to say about latest cell cam models, why these are so powerful, and why hunters can rely on their capabilities. Plus, benefit from how to use these in the field this season, with advice on ways to use Live View with cell cams.

Editor’s Note: Live View is not intended, and nor should it be used for, aiding real-time during the hunt to harvest a deer. Furthermore, check your state hunting regulations before using Live View with your cellular cameras. In some areas, some uses of Live View might be considered use of a communication device to aid in the hunt. For example, sitting in one stand, seeing a target deer on camera elsewhere, and climbing down to go shoot it, can be classified as such. Ensure your use of Live View is permitted by state and local hunting regulations. Always follow ethical guidelines and practices with your use of cellular trail cameras.

Live View is very easy to set up and use.

Live View Defined

Live View is a Stealth Cam cell cam’s ability to live stream video. With the push of a button in the Command Pro app, camera operators can instantly see what a trail camera sees via a live feed with audio.

Don’t confuse Live View with On Demand. Use of On Demand prompts the sending of a photo or short video, so there is a short delay before the imagery is received. Live View is a continuous live stream from the camera. As HuntStand’s Will Cooper puts it, Live View is the equivalent of a Ring doorbell for your cell cams.

As such, here are a few of many reasons why Live View can benefit your plans for 2025 and beyond.

“I thought it’d be pretty cool,” Dunkin said. “It’s something we’ve wanted to do. But until you actually use it, you don’t realize how awesome it is. But we’ve included it in such a way that it’s very affordable.”

The cost is only $5 per 60 minutes of Live View time.

Here are 15 ways to implement and reasons for deploying the Live View technology.

A Detailed Guide to HuntStand App Tools for Deer Hunters

Keep track of deer personality traits and behaviors.

1. Studying the Body Language of Deer

Part of deer hunting is understanding whitetail body language. Deer communicate non-verbally far more than audibly. By watching deer with the Live View feed, it’s possible to study their interactions and observe body language. Once on the hunt, this helps hunters better understand what deer might do before they do it. This is invaluable intel, and can help determine when to call, move, or even take the shot.

2. Learning the Dominance and Personality Traits of Bucks

Every deer is more or less dominant (bucks and does alike). That said, when targeting specific bucks, learning the dominance and personality traits of specific whitetails is very important. Dominance is influenced by numerous factors, including age, body size, and most importantly, temperament.

Therefore, not all mature deer are dominant. In fact, a 4-year-old with a bad attitude just might outrank a heavy 5-year-old with passive, reclusive tendencies. Because of this, Live View can reveal these tendencies and help hunters learn the personalities of specific bucks. This might assist in making decisions on where and how to pursue targets. For example, deciding to call and rattle, or not, to specific deer.

Pattern deer more easily in food plots and big fields.

3. Patterning Big-Field and Food Plot Deer

Hunters have long used time-lapse mode in trail cameras. Today, Live View is time-lapse on steroids. It provides an excellent tool for monitoring larger open areas, such as fields. It’s a tool for scouting large areas at once, especially at distance where deer might not trigger the camera.

4. Micro-Tuning Target Buck Field Emergences

Areas with large openings can be challenging to adequately cover with trail cameras. Big fields, and even large food plots, oftentimes have numerous trails that lead into the open. Some don’t have enough cams to cover every field or plot emergence point.

With Live View, you can post the cam in an area with great perspective. Then, scan its surroundings and see exactly which location most deer are, or a specific deer is, entering the open. This scouting effort aids in deciding where to post up for the next hunt.

Gauge which oak trees deer are targeting.

5. Gauging the Hottest Tree in the Oak Flat

Some hunters have stand locations in areas with numerous mature oaks. These oak flats drop a lot of red and/or white oak acorns, and deer flock to such areas. That said, some trees drop more or sweeter acorns than others. With a Live View camera positioned to see most or all trees, you can determine exactly which tree(s) deer are targeting the most. Then, once time to hunt, set up downwind of the hottest oak.

6. Seeing Whitetail Behavioral and Pattern Shifts

Whitetails live by a series of patterns, including long-, mid-, or short-term. With Live View, you can oftentimes see pattern shifts in real-time. For example, rather than deer hitting an oak tree they’ve been targeting 50 yards from the camera, you now see deer traveling toward a persimmon tree that just started dropping fruit 80 yards away. That’s not much of a change, but in regard to acceptable wind directions and stand locations, it can be significant when micro-tuning your setups.

Stay up to date with your hunting tactics.

7. Staying Current on Important Seasonal Factors

As noted above, deer operate on patterns. Live View can help stay current as important seasonal factors come and go. This allows hunters to adjust their tactics and hunting spots as needed throughout deer season.

8. Checking Cams for Entry and Exit Route Issues

Alerting deer to human presence is most common along entry and exit routes. Again, Live View shouldn’t be used real-time during the hunt. That said, posting cameras equipped with this tech can assist in studying access routes for potential issues.

Use Live View to assist with off-season monitoring and herd management.

9. Post-Season Herd Monitoring and Management

Earlier this year, after deer season ended, Dunkin was testing the Live View feature. Shortly after the Iowa season concluded, he started supplemental feeding his deer herd. Using the Revolver Pro 360, he was able to keep close tabs on deer hitting that feeder.

“I had the feed out, hit Live View on one camera, and there was a nice buck I’d been following,” he said. “I was like, there he is! He was in zone two and then started angling to the right. I hit zone three and it turned right to zone three. I’m watching him in three, my kids are watching, and it’s all really cool. I started panning around, and I had deer 2 yards from the camera. It’s so quiet that they can’t hear it.”

10. Studying Deer Bedding Behaviors

Although this implementation should never be used for the sake of aiding real-time during the hunt, consider the potential research and learning applications for observing bedded deer with Live View. This has the potential to unlock so much whitetail behavioral knowledge in terms of deer bedding habits, typical bedding behavior, and much more.

Use Live View to record awesome footage.

11. Recording Awesome Footage of Whitetails and Other Game

The Live View feed offers users the ability to record incredible footage of whitetails and other game. “We’ve made it possible for users to hit the record button,” Dunkin said. “You can take photos, or record, during use of Live View. Once done recording, it will save it to your device.”

12. Pre-Season Scouting Fields for Birds

Live View isn’t just for deer hunters. Turkey hunters stand to benefit from it, too. “This spring, I just jumped on the Command Pro app with the 360 Revolver Pro,” Dunkin said. “I hit Live View and watched the turkeys out in the fields. I’ll scan the fields. It’ll amaze you how many times you’ll see birds that are 60, 80, or 100-plus yards away strutting in the field. You really get a good feel for what’s going on at your farm.”

With audio, Live View is excellent for pre-season gobbling surveys.

13. Taking Pre-Season Gobbling Surveys

Another excellent turkey-minded implementation is taking pre-season gobbling surveys. “Open the app, turn on Live View for those cameras, and benefit from the video and audio,” Dunkin said. “Want to know if birds are gobbling? You can hear it.”

“The audio is awesome,” Dunkin continued. “There are times when the sun is coming up, you open the app, turn on Live View, and hear audio of birds gobbling. There are so many unique reasons to use Live View.”

14. Monitoring Trap Lines

Trappers have an obligation to check their trap lines every day. Although use of a cell camera might not satisfy some state trapping regulations, Live View can be great for monitoring trap lines. Furthermore, it can help trappers see how fur-bearers interact with their traps, which can unveil mistakes and potential improvements.

Live View is sure to be a hit in deer camp.

15. Ultra-Effective Surveillance Enhancements

Cell cams are great surveillance tools. Cell cams equipped with Live View are exponentially better for it. This enhances camera abilities even more, and those running units to make safe their land certainly benefit from this recent addition.

Bonus: Generating Banter and Conversation in Camp

You’re in hunt camp, and you need some additional fuel for the campfire fodder. Live View is the ticket, as it’ll keep the group convo going strong. Merely pull it up and check some cams with the crew. Heck, you can even cast it to a big-screen TV! Or showcase some of the video recordings from recent Live View experiences. Regardless, it’s sure to impress your hunting buddies.

And Much More

The above reasons merely scratch the surface for potential Live View applications. There are far more reasons and case uses for this incredible trail camera tool.

“From a land manager perspective, to a hunting perspective, to a surveillance perspective, there are so many reasons why this is beneficial for people to use,” Dunkin said. “You’re going through your photos, and it’s Christmas every morning.”

And, with Live View, Christmas any time you want it to be.

Consider Stealth Cam accessories to maximize performance in the field.

2025 Cell Cams to Consider

The Live View technology is available in the Deceptor Max, Deceptor Max 2.0, Spectre 4K, Revolver Pro 360, and Revolver Pro 2.0 360 models.

“It does great video, too, but for photos, the 360 is an epic camera for open-field type settings,” Dunkin said. “But for video, the Spectre 4K is incredible. It’s amazing for when you want to run a camera in video mode. It’s perfect for scrapes, trails, and other places I want video. I’ll use the Deceptor Max 2.0 as well.

“This year, the thing with these new cameras, is they have dual core processors,” Dunkin continued. “So, they can both take a photo and upload photos at the same time. There are a lot of cameras on the market that can’t do that, and those are single-processor cameras that take those, and once uploading photos, cannot take new images. You’re missing some of the action. That’s why we put dual processors in these cameras.”

With that inclusion, no matter what, you won’t miss the action. Plus, despite the upgrades, these still just run on 16 AA batteries. Factor in GPS, and you’ll always know where your camera is located. They’ll sync up and show their locations.

Additionally, new models include other great upgrades, such as updated housing, which eliminates condensation. Another improvement? Internal storage. Dunkin notes, from the customer service side, most issues with cell cameras are linked to SD cards. Furthermore, SD cards cost money, and these are increasingly more expensive.

Need more cams to cover your farm(s)? With Stealth Cam, multiple models come in multi-packs, including the Connect Max, Deceptor Max 2.0, Fusion Max, and Fusion Max 2.0. Under the Muddy banner, numerous two- and three-packs are available as well. Dunkin is especially excited about the Trifecta, which is a 180-degree camera, and the photos are incredibly sharp. Plus, the battery life is phenomenal.

The FieldMAX line of accessories are perfect for elevating your cell cams even further. Examples include the FieldMAX Lithium Rechargeable Cartridge, Lithium Rechargeable Cartridge 2-Pack, and Revolver Lithium Rechargeable Cartridge. Or external power sources, such as the External Lithium Rechargeable Battery, SOL-PAK Solar Battery Pack, EX Solar Battery Pack, 12-Volt Solar Auxiliary Power Pack, and more. Use of these greatly extends battery life, which reduces trips afield, lowers gas bills, minimizes pressure on the deer herd, and more. Finally, benefit from the Cam Stick and Mounting Post when trees aren’t available or ideal.

Then, hit that Live View button. Virtual adventure and next-level scouting awaits.
